The Special Education (SE) Teacher Consultant position will begin with the 2024-25 school year. This position is part of the Education Association union with competitive wages based on union pay scale for degree and experience and full benefits. Main office located at the DIISD Administration Building in Kingsford, Michigan. Services provided to the DIISD and local districts in Dickinson and Iron Counties.

Length of Contract: Negotiated School Calendar and In-service hours per the current Master Agreement

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in an educational area related to special education

A valid teaching certificate

Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience (minimum of 2 years of teaching in a SE program)

Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver’s license.
General Description: Provide consultation to improve the instructional skills of teachers in the area of literacy, math, and behavior. The consultant will train instructional personnel in providing high level, research based intervention within the MTSS framework. In addition, the consultant will evaluate academic achievement of students as part of the special education referral process and assist in coaching teachers and paraprofessionals in implementing positive behavioral support plans for individual special education students.
Essential Functions:
- Assist our diagnostic staff and local district administrators in developing student assistance teams.
- Consult with LEA Special Education teachers.
- As part of the evaluation teams, will evaluate children suspected of having a disability.
- Complete all reports within the required timelines.
- Coordinate, consult and support MTSS work with the DIISD.
- Must have regular and reliable attendance.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstration how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
- Adhere to DIISD Code of Ethics.
- Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration
